Swinton Druid’s Temple Alternative Name: Druids Temple source
Country: England County: Yorkshire (North) Type: Modern Stone Circle / Monolith
The Druid’s Temple is located near the village of Ilton in North Yorkshire, England. The temple is a folly, built around 1800 by William Danby of nearby Swinton Park.
The region at the time was suffering from an agricultural depression and high unemployment, so Danby hired local men to build a Stonehenge inspired folly, even attempting to hire “druidic hermits” to live in the temple.
