Selection from “Bird’s Eye View of the Capital City” by Xu Yang, 1767. This painting of Beijing at the height of the Qing Dynasty shows the development and sophistication of the city that had been China’s capital since the Mongol conquests. The city was separated into different districts: the Forbidden City in which the royal family dwelled; the Imperial City which housed the bureaucracy; the Inner City, reserved for Manchu nobles; and the Outer City, for everybody else.

This waterfall was formed from Karst Topography -the dissolution of the limestone created phenomenal geologic formations. Located more than 1,000 feet underground. One of the deepest/longest underground waterfalls in the nation.
