The Castello Plan of New York (then New Amsterdam), dating from 1660. This is the oldest map of Manhattan and the only one from the period when the island was controlled by the Dutch. The Dutch surrendered New Amsterdam to the British in 1664 after neglecting to fortify or defend the island.
